The formation of the Sri Lankan Professional Cricketers’ Association strengthens collective player representation in the country and expands the growing global network of organised cricketers.
The World Cricketers’ Association (WCA) has welcomed the formation of the Sri Lankan Professional Cricketers’ Association, a new organisation established to strengthen the collective voice and representation of professional cricketers in Sri Lanka.
The new association represents an important development for players in one of cricket’s most established nations, providing a structure through which they can organise collectively and have a stronger voice in decisions affecting their profession and the future of the game.
Players’ associations play a critical role in ensuring athletes are consulted, supported and represented as professional sport evolves. By organising collectively, players are better positioned to engage in decision-making, advocate for their interests and contribute to stronger and more sustainable sporting environments.
WCA CEO Tom Moffat welcomed the initiative, highlighting the connection between effective player representation and the development of the sport. “A strong game and strong player representation go hand in hand. Cricket thrives when players have a genuine voice in its future, and by coming together with a unified voice, the Sri Lankan players have demonstrated a deep commitment to the long-term health, integrity and professional progression of the game.”
The new organisation follows the recent establishment of the US Cricketers’ Association and reflects a broader expansion of collective player representation across international cricket. Players from 17 of the world’s top 19 cricket countries are now affiliated with WCA.
